Overview
In moderation, theft can be a healthy part of RP which not only puts wealth in the thieves pockets, but opens other avenues for RP such as police departments. There should however be strict regulations as to what is acceptable thievery.
Breakdown of the Rule
1. Theft may only occur between 2 Roleplayers. Casual players may not steal, and may not be stolen from.
2. A thief may only burgle 1 structure within a 12 hour period [Real Time]
3. A player may only burgle 10% of any given resource found on that property, rounded down. To clarify:
A burglar enters a 2 story house. There is a chest on the first floor with 64 Redstone and 7 Gold. His current burglar allowance is 6 Redstone, as 10% of 64 is 6.4, rounded down to 6, and 10% of 7 is 0.7, rounded down to 0. The Burglar moves upstairs and finds a chest with 4 more Gold. This brings the total Gold on the property to 11. 10% of 11 is 1.1, rounded down to 1. The burglar may now take 1 Gold!
4. A player may not destroy more property than is required to access a hidden stash. To Clarify:
A player chops up a 16x16 plot of wood plank floors and finds a single chest. The player is expected to restore the entirety of the floor, with the exception of the single block that must remain out to give access to the chest. *Note - While it is not required for a player to restore this last block, a good Burglar would restore it all the same, delaying the time of detection.
5. A player may not destroy any structure or door to access a stash if there is a way to gain entrance through any means. To Clarify:
A player has a 10 switch combo lock to their vault. If a thief wishes to enter this vault, they will have to “pick the lock”, meaning they will have to figure out the proper combination. They may NOT place a switch in from of the door, or break into the circuit room.
6. A player may NOT use sabotage as a means of circumventing a lock.
7. A player caught burglaring within the bounds of RP cannot be punished by any means except through further RP. To Clarify:
A player is caught stealing from a Moderator in an RP location. The player made sure to stay under the 10% limit and is therefore still within the bounds of RP. As such, the Moderator has no authority to kick or ban, but rather must fall back on local Nation Laws. If the RP location does not fall under Jurisdiction of an RP Nation, then the Victim may choose to retaliate within the bounds of RP.
Note: Burglars should always be considered PVP players, regardless of their possession of the PVP tag.
Punishment
Players caught violating these rules are subject to a temporary ban ranging from 24 hours to up to 1 week, depending on the severity of the theft. In severe cases, a permanent ban may be given.
How each group is affected
Only Roleplayers are permitted any sort of theft, but only against other Roleplayers. Theft against a Casual player or theft by a Casual player constitutes an instant 1 week ban.
